Although often neglected and underplayed in mainstream history, armed resistance to British imperialism is a significant part of Indian’s epic struggle for freedom. The essays in this volume, written over several years, document various episode of resistance highlighting freedom fighters who inspired generations of Indians by their sacrifices. They discuss the Velour Mutiny, the Chittagong Uprising, the Non-Cooperation movement and the militants of Bengal, Gandhi’s attitude to the execution of Bhagat Singh, the Telengana and Kakdwip risings, among others. The essays also underline the facts that the fight against colonial oppression and exploration was inextricably linked to the struggle against feudalism.

Discovering The Sikhs
This Autobiography comprises two parts, both concerned with the authors career in Sikh Studies. Part One is autobiographical it lays emphasis on those features of McLeods Career which have had an important influence on his relationship with the Sikh and with manner in which he has sought to give expression to them in his written works. Two features have been particularly significant. One is his religious development which, thirtyfive years ago, led him to unbelief. The other is his growth in understanding of the nature and value of historical studies.
Part 2 concerns Sikh Studies and the vigorous attacks that have been made during the decade from 1986, and although they have subsided somewhat since the mid 1990s the feeling that were aroused during that decade have left a substantial deposited. An attempt is made to answer these charges and to show that Mcleods analysis of Sikh history and religion has always been critical and dispassionate, yet sympathetic.

The 21st century poses a challenge to only Khalsa but t all religions. At the same time it offers opportunities for the cause of spiritual regeneration of mankind.
Creation of Khalsa in 1699 was the culmination of the Divine Programme commenced by Guru Nanak in 1499. The mission aimed at not only at only a new recealed, totally scientific religion, free from all myths, but also a new Nation.
